TL;DR
Egyptian hotel staff often consider appliances 'working' even if they don't function properly. Persistently explain the specific issue to guest relations — it usually gets resolved.
When the AC runs but doesn't cool, staff will come, say 'it's working', and leave. You need to clearly explain that the issue isn't that it won't turn on — it's that the room isn't getting cooler. This back-and-forth can take up to a week.
If the fridge is broken, report it and request a replacement. However, staff may insist the replacement unit is 'very good' even if it's leaking refrigerant.
The same applies to a bad mattress: report it to guest relations specifically. In one case, upon returning to the room the mattress had already been replaced — so contacting the right department can get things resolved quickly.
Minor issues like a stuck toilet flush button are common. Worth reporting to staff, though these tend to be lower priority.
